Hero Fest Delivered a Big Weekend in Houma
If you stayed home this weekend… you might've picked the wrong weekend.
Hero Fest took over the Barry P. Bonvillain Civic Center, bringing together carnival rides, food, vendors, a 5K, fireworks, and a seriously strong lineup of live music. John Foster took the stage Friday, while Saturday brought a pretty wild one-two punch with Drowning Pool followed by the Eli Young Band. Sunday kept things Louisiana with Wayne Toups and Keith Frank.
But the weekend worked for more than just the music. Hero Fest was one of those rare events where you could bring the kids for the rides and activities, catch great live music, eat something you probably didn't need to, and know the whole thing supported Terrebonne Parish's first responders and their families. Proceeds help with scholarships, families in crisis, and other assistance for local first responders.
If you made it out, you know. If you missed it… well, there's always next year.

Wednesday night gets a little more serious, but this one is about us.
On High Water: Holding Ground on a Vanishing Coast tells the story of the people living along Louisiana's disappearing coastline and the fight to hold onto the communities, livelihoods, and culture built around our water.
The documentary gets its Houma premiere Wednesday night, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Samuel George and people featured in the film.
Admission is free, but advance registration is required.
You don't often get to see our corner of Louisiana on the big screen. This one's worth getting out of the house for.

Apparently Mahjong has a dress code now, and we're completely here for it.
