👵 MAW MAW TOOK OVER DOWNTOWN
If you were in Downtown Houma Saturday and thought you saw a suspicious number of wigs, muumuus and walkers, you weren't imagining things.
The 6th Annual Maw Maw Walker took over downtown, sending participants through 18 local stops while raising money and driving traffic to downtown businesses. The event has grown into one of Houma's stranger and probably more uniquely Houma traditions.
And there's actually something behind all the foolishness. Organizer Hache Grant Association uses its events to support projects aimed at improving the community, including the development of the Bayou Terrebonne Paddle Trail, which plans a series of floating docks and launches giving people better access to Bayou Terrebonne.
Only in Houma can dressing like somebody's Maw Maw, wandering downtown and having a good time potentially help build a better bayou. We’ll take it. 🧂
